-MONDAY’S PICK OF THE WEEK- This week’s pick is from our Poughkeepsie showroom furniture counselor, Karyn. She picked our handmade, two-sided Shifman mattresses, the finest handmade mattress in the world. When shopping for a mattress Karyn suggests you ask some important questions:
Is it a one or two sided mattress? A one sided mattress is only half a product and will last half as long. Shifman only makes 2 sided mattresses.
Does it have a real box spring? A foundation without springs can’t provide support and comfort. Shifman uses an 8-way, hand-tied and knotted box spring for their handmade mattresses. Remember, 1/3 of the support of your mattress comes from the box spring.
Is the upholstery material natural or synthetic? Shifman uses cotton for resiliency, comfort, and durability as well as Belgian damask, matelassé fabrics, wool, cashmere, and pashmina.
Karyn, who suffers from frequent back pain, recently purchased Shifman’s Chagall mattress. “I’d been sleeping on a memory foam mattress for several years and was not getting the support my back needed. I would go to bed in pain and wake up the same way. Now I wake up with no pain and feeling great. Some mornings I don’t even want to get up! I absolutely love my Shifman.”
Stop into our Poughkeepsie location and ask Karyn about our two-sided handmade Shifman mattresses. She promises to get out of bed and be there Monday-Thursday and Saturday from 9:30-5:30. Or call 845-778-1500 and ask for Karyn. Sweet dreams!
Millspaugh Furniture would like to reward the three communities we serve by investing
in the success of local charities, Strengthening the Fabric of our Community. A monthly giving program has been established, awarding a $1,000.00 donation to a different local charity each month. The winning charity is selected via popular vote through facebook.
Currently in its second month, with a new winner to be announced in a few days, we anticipate a race to the finish by entrants that fell short last month, as well as new entries (the entry form is accessible on our home page: www.millspaugh.com) The program has garnered media attention, with Proprietor Keith Millspaugh appearing on the popular Q92.1 radio show, Joe Daily in the Morning. (You can listen on our website page dedicated to the Giving Program!)
Gifts from the Heart for Downs, a Tillson, NY based organization that grant’s wishes s to children and adults with Down Syndrome was our first winner in April 2014. Their mission in granting these wishes is to provide the possibility of a special moment and to enhance the quality of life for those with Down Syndrome. We look forward to the next award winner being named & learning about the difference $1000 will make in the population they serve!
When he was just 17 years old, Theron L. Millspaugh began learning the art of fashioning rough wood into beautiful pieces of furniture.
Theron- “TL” to his friends- was no stranger to hard work, having been born on a farm in pastoral Montgomery. His employer, furniture maker John Woolsey, was impressed
by TL’s energy and willingness to work long hours to satisfy his customers. When Woolsey passed away, TL decided to carry on his legacy by purchasing the business from his wife.
The business quickly outgrew its tiny space, so TL decided to erect a storefront befitting its success. The resulting three-story brick building, a staple of Walden’s Main Street,
remains our main store today. The business continued to grow, and the store-front grew with it. In 1895, TL installed a dumbwaiter that could transport furniture between the three floors of the store, we still use the dumbwaiter for that same purpose, over 115 years later!
And, in 1901, TL connected the building with the storefront next door, creating the largest store in Orange County. TL and the five generations after him have built Millspaugh
Furniture on customer satisfaction and business honesty. We’re no longer the largest store in the county, but we have continued our steady growth by adding locations in
Poughkeepsie and Warwick. Each store retains the charm and warmth we have always been known for. We love our customers and look forward to many more generations of serving the Hudson Valley.
Celebration Sale in progress from March 22nd to April 12th!
The phrase above is a great yardstick to measure a future purchase.
How many things that you purchased last year will you still have in 10 years? Your car? Probably not. Your television? Computer? Major appliance, only if you are very lucky!
